Policy sets criteria for registering historic buildings. Research confirmed it does not qualify, allowing chimney removal without harm to historic interests.

John F. Kerruish objected to the removal of the chimney due to its historical significance and other concerns, while Highways Division had no views and did not oppose.
Key concern: demolition of historically significant chimney from unique former bakery building in Peel Conservation Area
John F. Kerruish
ObjectionThe outbuilding in question is the former Bakery building, and its chimney was from the solid fuel ovens, of a unique type to Peel, and possibly to the entire isle of Man.; Demolition of such a historic significant feature of a building within the Peel Conservation Area would be contrary to the goals & spirit of conservation.; The applicant claims that the chimney is in a dangerous state... This is down to lack of maintenance.; The chimney forms a privacy screen in blocking the direct line of sight...; The applicant states that the chimney has no useful function. Not so. From photograph ~2~, it is clearly seen that it supports the flue from an oil powered boiler.
