List dated 18/08/05 Date of this response 21/08/05 See 97/2042 on which we did not comment. Difficult to locate – the North point on the drawings was pointing in the wrong direction! An attractive single-storey cottage – according to the photograph supplied – and we see no justification for its demolition.
In any case replacement of one dwelling in the countryside, by 2 is just not to be contemplated under Rural Policy. The Society STRONGLY OBJECTS.
Replaces 05/0786 withdrawn. In commenting on that, we wrote:
Plan 3 of the Bride Village Study shows this site as being within the village envelope (or, at least, outside the Agricultural Border.) This may be taken to imply that replacement of the former building with a dwelling might be acceptable.
Replacement of a sub-standard dwelling lower down from this site (“Ellen Thie” – 99/1924) has recently been approved and seems to be now in progress. This site, being on top of the rise, is very prominent; so anything permitted here should be single storey.
Subject to a very careful design, the Society will not object. There is rather more detail of the setting of the proposed building in this new submission but our views remain the same.
Compared with some recent signage (such as the ones which have just appeared in Kirk Maughold village) this is quite modest. If it could be slightly narrower, it would fit better on the splayed wall – otherwise NO OBJECTIONS
A poor substitute for the very fine stone archway, which stood here until its recent (unauthorised?) demolition but better, we suppose, than nothing.
This bungalow occupies a very small site in unfortunate tandem with a larger dwelling which has been allowed to grow behind. Squeezing in more accommodation may not really be desirable. The Society is not too happy about it.
There has been a most unfortunate growth in farm tracks and the like in this general locality. That up Mount Karrin and those on the opposite side of the glen constructed by the Water Authority in particular. Now we are to have another one, although in this case it may not be so bad as the others, as there is some tree cover and the prospect of even more if the Developer’s offer is taken up. It may also have some incidental benefit to the Camp Site.
The Society reluctantly agrees to this Application
