Castletown Local Plan 1991
Walled garden for parking designated as woodland; prior redesignation required before approval in principle. Proposal fails to comply as no comprehensive landscaping/open space/design criteria provided. Objections reference non-compliance directly.
Supports conversion of large dwellings to multiple occupancy if for first-time/local buyers, aligns with policy reducing greenfield pressure
Express interest; require contact for water supply connection under byelaws (Note 4 for apartments)
Multiple private individuals and groups object to the application primarily due to traffic and parking issues on narrow Queen Street, overdevelopment, drainage concerns, and impacts on heritage and character; DoT Highways objects unless traffic calming is provided; IoMWA notes standard water connection requirements; Andrew Jessopp supports the principle.
Key concern: traffic safety on narrow single-lane Queen Street/Scarlett Road
Andrew Jessopp
SupportThe conversion of large dwellings to multiple occupancy, particularly if they are priced to assist first time buyers, would appear to be in accordance with government policy. Provided that the resulting development helps satisfy the demand for housing from local buyers, and reduces the pressure for greenfield development, than I support the application.

Castletown Heritage
ObjectionKnock Rushen House still remains one of the more significant houses forming as it does the end of the built area of Castletown. This proposal will have a totally undesirable effect on the surrounding buildings and rural landscape
John Cringle and Pauline Cringle
Objectionprevious inspectors reports into development at Knock Rushen have highlighted the problems of through traffic and categorically stated this roadway is unsuitable for any increases in traffic movements and one inspector went as far as saying “to all intents and purposes Queen Street is a cul-de-sac leading to Scarlett”
A. Metcalfe
ObjectionThe number of residential units should be restricted to 6
