That application was refused due to inadequate access arrangements. The site is zoned as Area L in the Draft Castletown Local Plan to which paragraph ii) advises that the proposed development must take access from Malew Road. This application seeks approval in principle for residential development with access from the Castletown Bypass. R 1 . The proposed development entails a new access onto the A5 Castletown Bypass, a strategic route with a 50 mph speed limit contrary to the interests of road safety. Additionally such an access would necessitate an uncontrolled level crossing over the Isle of Man Steam Railway within a short distance off the A5, contrary to the interests of road safety.
