Planning Statement
I erected a field shelter for our livestock and a “shed” for storage of equipment. I thought this was permitted development due to the heights but I was mistaken. I can only apologise for my error in this regard and now respectfully seek retrospective planning permission for 2 structures
We own 7 acres of land and utilise this to keep livestock. We currently have 4 goats with plans to increase this number via a breeding program. We have a Ovine holding number . As pictured, much of our land is given over to natural habitat to help the environment and provide our goats with variation of grazing. It could also support the creation of our own hay for winter feeding but we have no storage options on site for hay bales at scale without additional storage building works
To protect our livestock, I erected a field shelter made out of timber and galvanised steel. 10 wooden posts where knocked into the ground 1ft and no other groundworks where done. It was positioned to offer the best protection from relevant weather and in the least prominent position possible.
I also erected a high quality plastic shed. This is free floating and moveable and is used to protect very expensive grass cutting and land maintenance equipment, This was the smallest shed possible that would fit my equipment and was positioned up against the only hedges on our land to minimise its visual impact
With regards the Isle of Man Strategic Plan 2016 i believe the development satisfies General Policy 2, which requires that development respects the character, siting, and amenity of the area given nearby adjacent land has buildings such as stables and the shelter has been constructed using purely agricultural materials and painted relevant colours.
With regards Transport Policy 4, which ensures that development does not compromise highway safety or the capacity of existing infrastructure; there is no requirement for amenities to be installed and no increase in use of our right or way road access.
With regards Environment Policy 15, which supports new agricultural buildings where a clear agricultural need is demonstrated and where the siting, scale, materials, and form are appropriate to the rural context and do not result in unacceptable landscape or amenity impacts, the shelter is only for the protection of live stock already on site to ensure their health and wellbeing and has been constructed with a low profile, to a compact scale and painted appropriate colours to minimise visual impact. The shed again is only present to allow for storage / protection of expensive land maintenance equipment required to maintain the land to a high and useable standard and was the smallest possible. This too has been positioned to minimise visual impact and is covered on 2 sides by thick hedgerows.
We take great pride in maintaining our livestock and land and hope our application finds support
