DEFA Ecosystem Policy Officer objects to the tree planting plan due to inclusion of invasive non-native cherry laurel and requests updated plans excluding specified invasive species.
Key concern: Inclusion of invasive cherry laurel in planting plan
DEFA Ecosystem Policy Officer
ObjectionObjection on behalf of the Ecosystem Policy Team; Cherry laurel, though not currently listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, is considered a non-native highly invasive plant species; We therefore do not recommend it’s planting, especially in this rural setting next to semi-natural habitats; Planting in this location should be undertaken with native or other well established species
Conditions requested: Updated landscaping plans which do not include the planting of species listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, or cherry laurel, pendulous sedge, buddleia, rosa rugosa, or common snowberry, should be provided before this condition is signed off
