Requirement for Agricultural Building, Baldromma Moar, Maughold
Following my recent visit to your farm, I am writing to confirm the details of my visit.
Proposal
To erect a Dutch barn type building, approximate dimensions 60 feet x 30 feet on the site of existing stone-built traditional building, whilst retaining one or more of the original stone walls of existing building. The need for this building to be constructed is a combination of the roof blowing off the existing building, and a need for additional storage space for livestock fodder and machinery.
Justification
In general, when considering whether a building is justified in agricultural terms, the first issue that planning departments consider is whether there is justification for at least one full time equivalent (FTE) justified on the farm. This calculation is made using standard labour requirement data, and the calculation for your farming activities is shown following:
Total Standard Hours Requirement Baldromma Moar = 1994 hours Standard Full time Equivalent (FTE) = 1900 hours Full time Equivalents justified at Baldromma Moar = 1994/1900 = 1.05 FTE
On this basis, there is justification for one full time equivalent employed in agricultural activities at Baldromma Moar.
Furthermore, since the roof blew off the traditional building, I can confirm that the one remaining functional building on the farm offers limited storage space for fodder and machinery storage, particularly at lambing time, if ewes are housed for lambing.
If you have any further queries on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Macdonald. SAC Agricultural Adviser
