preferred location with access directly off St. Ninians road; standard design used elsewhere without planning difficulties; require 24 hour HGV access; will serve development and reinforce network
MEA supports the proposed substation location with minor suggestions for access improvements, while DOT Highways objects due to road safety concerns from vehicles parking opposite a road junction.
Key concern: sub station sited directly opposite a road junction creating hazard for service vehicles
Manx Electricity Authority
SupportThe substation location shown on your drawing is in MEA's preferred location with access directly off St. Ninians road rather than through the residential development.; The substation is based on our standard design which has been used in various locations around the island without any planning difficulties.; To avoid problems with the substation doors opening directly onto the public footpath, the substation could be set back from the footpath and an area of hard standing placed in front of it. A lockable bollard could be provided in front of this area to prevent unauthorised parking.; MEA require 24 hour HGV access to the all substations, and this is best facilitated by having a ground level access directly off the public highway.
Department of Transport Highways Division
ObjectionObjection: The sub station is sited directly opposite a road junction which will create a hazard when service vehicles park in front of this proposed facility.; Reason: In the interests of road safety.
