Planning Statement Conclusions
3.0 Conclusions
The proposed development of an access ramp and steps is a step towards complying with the requirements of the proposed Disabled Discrimination Act in the Isle of Man.
The proposed development would not adversely affect the character and appearance of Athol Street and is in keeping with the design of 33 Athol Street.
The application is supported by the Disabled Access Office.
Dickinson Cruickshank are willing to provide an undertaking for further consultation with the Department of Transport and the Disability Access office in relation to land ownership, to minimise the hazard to pedestrians during any construction phase and for suitable surfaces to best meet the needs of mobility impaired and sight impaired people.
The remaining clear footpath width exceeds minimum design recommendations for two wheelchair users or a wheelchair user and pedestrian to pass.
The intrusion into the footpath will result in a clear footpath width greater than other areas of Athol Street.
