Notes: Proposed Development – Victoria Mall Ramsey
Car Parking: Currently there are no designated disabled spaces. The total number of car park spaces is 75, however the management of these is non-existent. Subsequently with the abuse of all day parking, only approximately 40 or so spaces are turned six times per day.
The new development has reduced the number of spaces to 70, however it has increased the flow by altering the design layout and by installing pay and display – paying facility (as can be seen at the airport) – can increase the turning of space to 450 – 500 per day. In addition, allowing different clientele an empty car park in the evening for parking access for the Cinema, Pizzeria and Chinese restaurant.
Disabled Access: Historically has been poor or non-existent – All up to date facilities will be installed, including two wheel chair lifts, to allow access to Cinema, restaurants and shops.
New Tenants / Businesses: There has already been an interest in the new project from prospective new tenants and businesses. The pizzeria and cinema have already been earmarked for tenants and approximately 4500 sq.ft out of a possible 9000 sq.ft has also been pre-booked if the planning permission is successful.
Amenities: Unfortunately Ramsey has seen a decline in shops and other amenities over recent years. The new project upgrades the existing Victoria mall units / Super market and provides the opportunity for the additional shops/businesses / 178 seater Cinema / 80 seater Pizzeria / 80 seater Chinese restaurant. Set in aesthetically pleasing environment with landscaping of trees, shrubs, and hanging baskets to compliment the Britain in Bloom project.
These amenities will not only be beneficial for Ramsey residents but also the surrounding northern areas. An important issue is to encourage the youth of Ramsey to use the facilities like the Cinema / Pizzeria. CCTV will also be implemented to increase the security of the whole development.
Summary: The aesthetic valuation of the whole project has been carefully considered incorporating a new facade on the Super Market which will bring together both the old and new buildings in a sympathetic manner.
This project will not only create jobs whilst under construction, but will provided new jobs estimated at approximately 25-30, as well as some new businesses being set up in the area.
