Officer's Report
Planning permission was granted in August 2001 for the installation of replacement timber door at 129 Malew Street, Castletown. This application seeks approval to replace that door with a upvc door.
The previous owner of the property received grant assistance from the conservation section order to install the door, which the applicant is now stating has not been fitted properly and is not draft or sound proof. The applicant has contacted the Conservation section, which has advised him to contact the joiner who originally installed the door in order to remedy the defects.
Given the relatively recent replacement of the door and the fact that the property is located in the Conservation Area, I would recommend refusal on the grounds that the replacement door will detract from the appearance of the dwelling within the streetscene and Conservation Area.
