Introduction The site is situated in Union Mills. This is north of the A1 road from Douglas to Peel up Trollaby Lane. The planning proposal is for the erection of an agricultural shed in field no. 321282. History Planning permission has previously been applied for on the site in the applications below:
Planning Application No. 24/00769/B – 9 July 2024 a planning application is pending consideration for “the erection of an agricultural shed”.
Current Form
The field is currently used for cattle grazing with access provided via an existing gate to the east of the site.
Materials and Specification
A single number steel portal frames with a cat slide frame to the rear. The gable ends have been finished with a mixture of precast concrete panels, Yorkshire boarding and plastic-coated steel sheets. The south elevation will be finished with a mixture of concrete panels and plastic-coated steel sheets. The north elevation will be open ended.
There will be a concrete panel separation between the portal and cat slide frames. Metal cattle gates are positioned on the east elevation for access purposes.
Public footpath 215 is some 15m away from the shed location and will not be affected with the shed construction. Storm drainage will be dealt with via 2no. 150mm diameter perforated pipes, 1 to the north of the site and one to the south of the site. Straw bedding will be provided to the pens. This will be cleaned and spread directly to the farmland every 8 weeks.
Livestock
Currently there is 93 head of cattle on the farm, 47 dairy heifers, 20 cross bred beef cattle and 26 Limousin pedigree cattle.
The proposed shed is to house the Limousin cattle as the plan is to grow each year. The existing 26 currently being reared have outgrown the existing sheds. This is due to the fact that the bulls need to be penned separately based on different ages, sizes and food quantities. The Cain’s currently hold a “High Health Status” on the farm and to progress and maintain the high welfare status a new shed is required.
