Hi Dan Further to your email below, we have now had the opportunity to liaise with the appointed Horticulturist, who has advised as follows:‐
The successful planting and establishment of the shrubs and hedges requires the removal of the existing vegetation; the glyphosate will be applied according to instructions, at low volume and low pressure, via a knapsack, and on a still day, thus avoiding spray drift. Any flowering ‘weeds’ will be cut back a couple of weeks beforehand, to ensure that pollinators are not on the vegetation when it is sprayed.
For the wildflower meadow, we will manage existing wildflowers where we can and, where re‐seeding is necessary, we can create a seed mixture to replicate the existing meadow, using locally sourced seed where possible.
The proposed meadow maintenance regime will be Autumn cut, then let the seed heads lay for a week, then remove arisings. Invasive perennial ‘weeds’ (i.e. unwanted plants) will be treated with weedkiller wick applicator (spot treatment).
I hope that that successfully addresses the Eco Policy Officer’s points, but please let me know if any other information is required at any stage, and we will deal with that promptly.

Good Morning John, Our Eco policy officer has come back with some questions regarding the planting on application 23/10062/AIR (found here), would you please be able to provide:
They have also advised that the mentioned wildflower area is suitable and could use plants from the adjacent species rich grassland but care is needed and they would not like to see any seed mixes used in this area due to the effect they may have on the surrounding grassland.
They have also voiced concern about the use of glyphosate and removal of vegetation underneath the shrub and hedge planting as they feel it is unnecessary and could damage surrounding habitat when it comes to planting Manx hedges. They also want to confirm that glyphosate is not intended for the wildflower area.
If you have any questions please let me know, have a good day,
