Cement Render and Stonework
The walls were rendered in sand cement render in 1970's and finished with white textured cement paint. This paint is now falling off in places (photo 1)

The intention is to remove all the cement render. A test has been done and this is possible with hand tools without damaging stone. The exposed stone work will be pointed to a smooth surface and finished with lime wash. A sample of this is available for inspection by the west door (photo 2).
The elevations of the church are shown on drawing 101A.
A close-up photograph of a rendered exterior wall showing a patch of exposed substrate and cables running down the surface. A stone fixture, possibly a pulley, is attached to the wall.

Memorial Window
A photograph of an interior memorial featuring a stained glass window, a wooden board with inscriptions, and red flowers on a stone plinth.
Internally again there is a memorial window and wall plaques to the war dead from 1914-18 war (photo 6). It is intended to add a further memorial to the dead of 1939-45 with a marble insert laid in to the recess in the window sill (photo 7). It will be removable. The marble is polish and the names picked out by cutting back the stone around them to form a rectangular recess. This is shown in the drawing included at the end of this document.
Photo 6
A photograph showing the interior of a historic building featuring a large arched stained glass window with a Union Jack design. Floral tributes are placed at the base of the window, illuminated by natural light.

Dear Paul,
Re: Internal and external alteration, Malew Parish Church, Great Meadow, Malew, IM9 4EB - The Vicar and Wardens of the Parish of Malew and Santan.
We have amended the application as requested and included the new forms and the further copies of the application required. We have also included an additional report with the photographs and reference to details on the drawings previously submitted.
Although the work will be funded by the Friends of Malew Church, which is a registered charity, it was agreed at the parish church council that the application would be made by the owners, who in this case are The Vicar and Wardens. They still use the old spelling of Santan.
We have included an additional copy for Steve Moore as you required. The render work is planned for this year and we would appreciate if the application could be advertised. We will obviously supply Steve with any additional details he requires.
Yours faithfully,
Ashley Pettit Ashley Pettit Architects
