The main issue was the impact upon the character and appearance of the Conservation Area. The existing roof is not attractive and appears to be in a generally run-down state.
Environment Policy 35
ENV35 states that within Conservation Areas, the Department will permit only development which would preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Area, and will ensure that special features are protected against inappropriate development. The officer assessed the re-roofing against this policy, finding the replacement of the unattractive, run-down asbestos roof with smarter dark grey plastisol sheeting would enhance the Conservation Area.
Time limit
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
